Medication for patients with heart failure

Medication for those with weakness of the main pumping chamber

  • A group of medications have been found to reduce the risk of future problems and should be taken regularly. This includes drugs referred to as ACEI-inhibitors or Angiotensin Receptor Blockers; Beta-blockers; and Aldosterone antagonists.
  • Medication to prevent build up of excessive fluid is often required- the most common medication to help the kidneys get rid of fluid is Frusemide.
  • If the heart is out of rhythm, in atrial fibrillation, then medication to prevent the heart rate from being excessively fast is often required.

  • Medication to ensure control of high blood pressure
